Throughout the summer months, the stream of barbeques and other group dining events becomes almost obligatory. For individuals with gluten intolerance, a seemingly harmless gathering like a 4th of July cookout can transpire into a legitimate ordeal. Thankfully, there are some pretty amazing gluten free foods that’ll compliment your summer meal in a way everyone can enjoy.
Since many pre-made barbeque sauces and rubs contain gluten-based ingredients, it’s always a good idea to either seek out allergy products or, of course, just make your own. As far as pre-bottled barbeque sauces go, Sweet Baby Ray’s is the best allergy product on the market. This delicious, award-winning sauce is a perfect addition to any cookout.
If the idea of making your own gluten-free barbeque sparks your interest, there are a number of recipes available. Gluten-free cooking expert Teri Gruss explains the ingredients and directions for a delicious barbeque sauce:
“Ingredients:
* 1/2 cup gluten free ketchup
* 1/2 cup tomato sauce
* 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
* 1/2 cup pineapple juice
* 1/2 cup brown sugar
* 1/4 cup GF Worchestershire sauce (Lea and Perrins is gluten free)
* 1/4 cup water
* 1 medium chopped onion
* 1/4 teaspoon celery powder (not salt)
* 1/2 teaspoon paprika
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a heavy, medium sized sauce pan. Bring to a boil and simmer on low for about 10 minutes. Cool and store in the refrigerator.”
Gruss’ recipe is unique, yet easy to make and can be devoured by everyone at your summer barbeque. Whether you’re spreading it across a slab of baby-back ribs or using it as a dipping sauce for other gluten free foods, this barbeque sauce should make your barbeque woes disappear instantly.
